about

//this quilt
is a small piece of the harmony i have been aching for,
my retort to the screaming matches and the senseless hate directed at anyone who doesn't agree
the photographs in the quilt are taken by my friends and family
(and their friends and family)
in different places
across the united states and around the globe.
by digitally “stitching” these images together, we are all held in the same space,
overcoming the separations of time, physical and social distance, and different beliefs
for me personally, this project is a way to constructively respond to the fear and anger
i have been living in the last few months during this pandemic and time of protest,
a way to connect with the people i miss so much
considering each photograph without knowing the identity of the photographer
– only that there are a myriad of different people in different places involved –
creates another kind of meaning:
how do we judge another person when all we have is
the piece of blue that was over their head for an instant?
there are no faces for implicit biases to work from,
not even names, at first
shades of blue thwart any judgement that would be based on skin tone

//

we are all humandespite upbringing and beliefs,the arbitrary borders of town, state, and nation lines and even bodies, we,in every skin tone,are all human beingsliving on the same earth, under the same sky.
